Happy Sunday.
Well, it’s rather a monumental anniversary for The Paper Players this week. We have reached the milestone of 800 challenges! When Lesley from Always Playing with Paper reached out to me back in 2010 challenge sites were in their infancy, and I was thrilled to be asked to participate. Lesley went on to create many more challenge sites, some of which are still very active, including FreshlyMadeSketches. It’s hard to believe that I have participated in almost every challenge since that first challenge 16 years ago. The PP team is a very special team of amazingly talented crafters and we have been lucky to have many guest designers join us in the past.
To celebrate this occasion we are going all the way back to June 2010 to revisit the first sketch that ever appeared on our challenge site. I went back to look at my first card and was surprised to see it was a set I remember well from SU. Here’s that card
That really was a super cool stamp!
Looking at the sketch, and the cards for the challenge, I realized how timeless the sketch is. For my card for challenge 800 I went in a very different direction. Although, I have to admit, it took me multiple goes to come up with just the right card for our 800th. I think it was because I really did love the first one from 2010 so much!
Anywhere, here’s our sketch for this week:

I decided to go dark and dramatic and feature the Spellbinders Mini Musical instruments die set. I love this set. Although I play no instruments (unless you can call the triangle an instrument!) I absolutely love music. So this set absolutely spoke to me.
Here’s a sneak peek of my card for our 800th:

I began my card by creating the keyboard from black and white cardstock and then adhering them together. I then die-cut the violin and colored the individual pieces with copic markers.
The bow and string were next. I die-cut that from vellum and colored the stick and the frog (who knew it was called that!!!!) with copic markers. I added all those components to a chocolate cardstock focal layer after heat setting a white sentiment. The whole composition (see what I did there?!) was placed onto black cardstock.
Here’s my full card:

I hope that you will join us and help us celebrate our 800th challenge! As always the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
I’ll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you needing a little lift tonight.
Card recipe:
- Dies: Mini Musical Instruments – Spellbinders
- Cardstock: Spellbinders
Hugs

Wow, Jaydee! Dark, dramatic and stunning! What a beautiful interpretation of the sketch! The music lover in me always appreciates a great music themed card. These dies are awesome. I remember well the set you used for your first Paper Player sketch. Your card was gorgeous then, and is gorgeous now. I remember being asked to be a guest designer for July 2010, and how thrilled I was when Lesley asked me to be a permanent member. The Paper Players has always been my favorite challenge. Have a wonderful week!
What a fabulous card for a musician or a music-lover! Ann is right when she says it’s dramatic! Wonderful way to recreate our first sketch!
