I found the perfect challenges to showcase cards I made this weekend for the new card drive. Firstly, here's the challenge from AAA Cards
As soon as I saw this challenge I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to use a new star stencil and some embossing paste to create a background for my focal image and a pair of owls was the perfect image.
Here's my card:
As this card is going to the first of our Cards for a Cause charity - CARDS FOR HOSPITALIZED KIDS. I needed to create a card for a child. This Hero Arts image is just perfect – and you will be seeing this regularly over the next few weeks. I had great fun creating this card and hope it brings a smile to the face of the recipient.
For my second card, I found this fabulous inspiration across at Tag You're It
As this card is for CARD CARE CONNECTION
I wanted to create an adult card and the gorgeous tag on the challenge was perfect. Here's the challenge
I pulled out my Penny Black Blooming Garden and went to town with my distress inks and Copic markers. I stamped the flower petals twice so that I could color the one stamped onto the tag, and then another one that I cut out some of the petals and mounted on top of the base with dimensionals – add dimension to the card. I love the bright pop of color on the blue background. Luckily I found a great sheet of DSP leftover from a Simon Says Stamp card kit – it was the perfect blue to act as the background for me card.

CARDS FOR A CAUSE 2015
I really hope you will join me on our CARDS FOR A CAUSE drive this year. These two charities were chosen for the work they do with children and adults who are battling with cancer and other long term medical conditions. I spent a lot of time reviewing sits that we could help and these two really caught my eye this year.
Here's a little more detail on each charity:
I chose this charity because Cancer is a disease that has taken the people closest to me. My Mother. My Brother. My husband. My Father-in-law. Multiple aunts and uncles – and friends. I suffer from a pre-cancerous condition that has to be monitored regularly. It's a pervasive and pernicious disease. A disease that comes upon us silently and destructively. I've seen how isolated patients can feel and the work that Card Care Connection does really struck home for me. I'd take a bet that Cancer has affected many of you in some way, too. I do hope that you can find a way to help us out and bring a little cheer to a stranger.
Here's a little detail from their website:
Card Care Connection is devoted to enriching the lives of those affected by cancer. We work with hospitals, hospices, senior agencies, nursing homes, and individuals to identify potential recipients. This organization is designed to collect cards and care packages and send them to individuals who are faced with cancer. Our goal is that each delivery brings the recipient a brighter day. A recipient can be referred by a friend, family member, or agency representative.
Our second charity is CARDS FOR HOSPITALIZED KIDS.
Now… I don't think I have to spend a lot of time talking about why this particular charity caught my eye. We've collected cards for children before and I loved that this particular organization was started by a young lady who found untold strength when she was presented with a card from a stranger when she came back to her hospital bed.
Here's a little about this organization:
Jen Rubino – a young lady who, at the age of 11, was diagnosed with a truly debilitating disease that resulted in 20+ surgeries over the next several years. here's what she had to say:
There was one specific hospital stay that was very difficult for me. It was in February 2011, and I was recovering from a major surgery where doctors had to break my hip in 5 places and then completely re-construct & re-position it. I was in extreme pain, had lost a lot of blood and not doing well. I so badly just wanted to go to school, hang out with friends and be a normal kid. During that very difficult time, I received a handmade card from a hospital volunteer that really brightened my day; I founded CFHK to do that for other kids.
Since founding the organization, they have collected and distributed 40,000 cards to children in hospitals in al 50 states.

Hi Jaydee! Your cards are fabulous and you’ve picked two wonderful charities to receive them! I love the owls and that great sentiment, so perfect for what those children are going through. The second card is outstanding, looking so real. What a beautiful image! So light and airy, refreshing too! Sure to brighten the day of anyone suffering from cancer. I’ll be sure to check back on Thursday and see what I can offer this go around. It’s hard to get cards made with the Tour de France in full swing, but I’ll sure try! ; )
