Waffle Flower Inquisitive Gulls for Paper Players #754

Happy Sunday.

It’s another challenge across at The Paper Players this week and it’s the fabulous Ann’s turn to host our challenge and she chose a word that conjures up lots of yummy things It inspired me to get out my Waffle Flower Inquisitive Gulls dies. Not that I think Gulls are yummy – but you will see where that fits in later 🙂

Before I get started on today’s card. I would like to give a huge welcome to our newest Paper Players Design Team Member, Christy Stanford. Christy has a wonderful way with inks and paper, often delivering fabulous whimsical creations that always bring a smile to my face. Like this one. It’s clean and simple and just makes me smile! And this one – soooo cute. In addition to whimsical cards, Christy creates some fabulous clean and simple cards, but can also do a fabulous job of mixing DSPs into a wonderful cohesive whole. Christy was a guest designer for us back in 2022 and it’s wonderful to have her on the team as a permanent member. I hope you will pop along to her blog and welcome her to the team.

Now, here’s a sneak peek of tonight’s card:

Oh, and here’s Ann’s challenge for this week:

So, I bet you are wondering what on earth I have done using a gull die for a Food Glorious Food challenge? Good question!

Tonight’s card was inspired by an event that happened about 4 decades ago when I was back in the UK on holiday with my first hubby. We drove down to Cornwall, right at the very western tip of England and all he wanted was a Cornish pasty. A traditional, Cornish pasty. It was all he talked about from the minute we got on the plane. And he wanted to eat it at the cafe that is at Lands End.

For two whole weeks of our holiday before we got to Lands End in Cornwall, a Cornish pasty would pop into the conversation several times a day. Finally the day arrived and he went into the cafe. I sat outside enjoying the view. He came out of the cafe holding up his Cornish pasty triumphantly and smiling. I was just about to take a photo of him with his Cornish pasty held high when a Seagull came out of nowhere, swooped right between us and took the whole pasty right out of his fingers and flew off with it!!! Yep – nothing left except a little smidgen of pastry between his fingers!

So, when I saw this set from Waffle Flower I just had to make this card!

I began by die-cutting the elements for the card. I colored the chips (sorry couldn’t find a stamp or die for a Cornish pasty!) with some ink blending. I needed to ground the image so I the Sea Foam stencil from Waffle Flower to create a watery-ish background! I then added the chips to the beak of the Seagull and added a sentiment.

Here’s my card:

I hope you will join us and play along with Ann’s challenge. We woud love to see what Yummy goodies you use on your creations. As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:

Hugs

  1. This is adorable and the story that goes with it is just hilarious. Hope your husband got a second pasty and kept it save from seagull snack snatchers. I love Cornwall, it’s such a beautiful place…but the birds are a bit of a menace! Love how the preview of your card is just the seagull’s eyes…I had to giggle!

  2. Jaydee, I am LOL reading your story! I bet that was a sight to see! I do hope you got another one to enjoy!
Now, one of my favorite foods are french fries. I absolutely LOVE this card. It makes me smile! Your gull is so cute though, I would probably share.
Thank you for making me laugh with this fabulous creation!
