Wetlands for Paper Players #170

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

I hope you all enjoyed this glorious fall day.  Well, it was glorious in our neck of the woods.  The sun was shining for a change!  It has been dull and grey and wet and windy for so long, that I honestly felt as though I had been transported back to England!  However, today is bright and crisp and really beautiful!

The fabulous Sandy has a great challenge for us at the Paper Players this week and it's my turn to host on her behalf.   All my regular blog readers will know that this theme is right up my alley!

It's another fabulous badge from Nance, too!

Lou and I were driving home the other night at sunset and passed one of our local lakes.  I was totally caught up in the reflection of the water and how there was a bright orange band just above the lake with an almost white band of light above that and then the sky went from a paler blue to a dark blue.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  One of those sunsets that we only seem to get at this time of year.  The colors are much colder than the right pinks and very bright oranges of summer.    I didn't have my camera with me, but knew that I wanted to remember the colors and shades to use on a card.

When I saw Sandy's theme, I knew that it was exactly the right time to bring that image to life.   All I needed was Wetlands, some sponges and my Pumpkin Pie, Night of Navy, Marina Mist and Island Indigo ink pads.

Here's my card

I loved the circle as it made me feel as though I was looking through a telescope.  Lou, however, wanted to see more of the inked area and asked me to show it with a rectangle cut out instead of the circle.  He felt that you got more of the effect of the sunset as there is a slight orange tinge to the water.  I like the rectangle, but I still think I prefer the circle.    What do you think?  Which do you prefer?  I'd love to hear your opinion.

Now, don't forget to check out the fabulous cards from the design team.

And then pop along to the Paper Players and play along with us this week.  I can't wait to see what you do with this great theme!

On a personal note:

It's been a very long week this week – even though it was only a three day work week!  I put in nearly 40 hours in those three days, I might add.  Consequently, I got no where near my craft room and had little time to do anything else.   I was so glad when Friday evening arrived!

Lou is out in the garage finally getting it sorted.  He still had all of his garage "stuff" in boxes from our move.  Now, let's remember we moved in May 2012!  I couldn't stand the mess of the garage any longer, so we went off to Home Depot and bought some storage cupboards, a tool storage system and we are starting the get the place looking reasonable!  We really had to do it now, before it got any colder!

Sally, wanted to let you know that your mousepad is on its way to you!

As always, thank you for your visit.   Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.  I'll be back tomorrow with a card!

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. You have used my favorite stamp set again and I love the colors of the sunset. It shows what you described perfectly. I think I prefer the circle but really both are very nice. I look forward to the mouse pad and will think of you every day as I use it! Thanks again.

  2. I had a really hard time picking. I ended up copying the two pics and pasting them side by side to compare. Then I found that the light conditions must have been different when you photographed the two cards, so the blues don’t look the same. That made my decision even harder. I do like the look of the water in the rectangular card, but after much hemming and hawing, I have to go with the circular one. I like the way the circle spotlights the birds.

  3. Linda said exactly what I was going to say. I like it that you see more of the scene and the light in the rectangle card, but there is something about the circle card that draws me in. Maybe Linda is right in saying it spotlights the birds, But I’d be happy to receive either of them and thrilled if I had enough creativity on my own to think it up!

  4. Jaydee; both cards are great but I must say, I do prefer the circle card; agreeing with Linda that it really spotlights the birds. I also like the way your banner is laying on the circle card
    Great job on both

  5. I recently ordered this stamp set just because of all your beautiful posts using it. Can’t wait to get it. I like the rectangle one best. I go across a causeway every day to work and have been watching the gathering of the herons. Today (even though it wasn’t a work day) I went by again and there they were – hundreds with their babies! It’s a spectacular sight and this stamp reminds me of them. I love this time of year. Brings me an immense amount of joy.

  6. I’m with Lou, I like the rectangle and seeing more of the scene. :o)
I swear I want to get this set now. You have used it to create so many wonderful cards!
We’ve been in the 70’s for the past week but finally are down to more seasonable temps. We’re off for a walk through CW this afternoon–the trees have peaked and they’re stunning and the golden afternoon light of autumn is perfect. :o)
    Hugs!
P.S. Lou, I’m glad you’ve finally had a chance to get to that “garage stuff”. If it makes you feel any better, we’ve been in our house eight years at this point, and there are *still* unopened boxes in our garage…:oP

  7. Just gorgeous cards, both of them. I like the circle card the best (sorry Lou!). Your sponging is spectacular. This is one of my go to sets as you can do so much with each stamp. I love the navy on navy banner. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  8. Hi Jaydee! Your cards are wonderful and they both remind me of my beach time in Maine. I like the curved banner with the circle but the rectangle card shows more of the water and that’s my choice. I agree that the blue on blue banner is stunning too. Just a perfect challenge for you!

  9. I would have guessed you would use this stamp set, Jaydee. I think you like it as much as I do! Love your beautiful sunset. Did you use a brayer? That’s a skill I’ve yet to master. I think I like the circle shape better, almost feels like looking out of a porthole!

  10. What would I do without your blog and personal comments along with the cards. It is so uplifting. I really think the circle card make the whole card unique. Both are a thumbs up though.
God Bless you in all your endeavors.

  11. Another set of fabulous cards, Jaydee. The colors are gorgeous and so rich. They’re both gorgeous but I think I’m with Lou–I like seeing more of the colors through the rectangle, especially the orange in the water. Fabulous! Thanks for the shout-out on the badge too! ((hugs))

  12. What a decision – but I like the circle card a bit better! This set is so wonderful and your work with it, Jaydee, is fabulous.

  13. Lovely way to use this stamp set, Jaydee…you captured the sunset perfectly! I do like the circular image, maybe because I LOVE that banner & sentiment! Just beautiful!

  14. Doesn’t that gorgeous blue make you feel amazing when your eyes take it all in? I like the round shape, but the rectangle shows more of the beautiful shading, so it’s a toss up for me. Keep up the great work, Jaydee!

  15. It’s almost a shame to cover up your full piece of beautiful artwork but I do think the circle creates a much more dramatic, stunning work. TFS

  16. Beautiful cards, Jaydee! Your sponging is perfect. As for round versus rectangular, I prefer the rectangle. I like seeing more of the scene:)

  17. Jaydee, both of your cards are gorgeous! Funny how just changing the shape makes them look so different, too. I really wan this stamp set after seeing all of the beautiful card you have created with it. Hugs! Thanks for a fun challenge this week!
