Thinking of You – for case this sketch

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday.

I have an update on the OWH card drive later in this post.   In the meantime, I played along with the casethissketch challenge this week.   I LOVE this sketch.   It really calls for a very clean and very simple card and I decided to ink up and old set that I have, add it to a color I never use, and use some new goodies from the SU catty!

Here's the sketch:

In order to make the image from my stamp set work, I had to move the vertical elements just a little off center.

Here's my take on the challenge

I needed to add just a little something to the flowers, so I pulled out my gelly roller and got to work on them.   Just a little bit of bling really makes a difference when you have the card in your had.  Here's a close-up shot.

Once I had highlighted the petals with my gelly roller, I decided that I would pull out my Candy Dots and apply those to middle!

Overall, I was pretty pleased and love the fact that you can change out this color scheme to something much brighter, or more earthy!  Of course, you know that this one is going in the Operation Write Home card drive!

On a personal note:

Thanks to Colleen, Cam and Beth for all letting me know that they will be joining our card drive for Operation Write Home.  Thank you ladies!!!!   I took Beth's advice, and decided to show you two photographs in the hope that they would encourage those of you who haven't yet made up your mind to join us to dig around in your stash, or get crafting for this very worthy cause 🙂  These come directly from the Operation Write Home page…

And…. in case you forgot who the recipients of these cards are.  If you click on the photo below, it will take you to a video that operation write home created to celebrate the 2 million cards that people like us have made for the troops to send home.

I recommend you turn up the volume on your PC to listen to the amazing song written by Army Medic Zac Charles.   Oh… yeah… grab a tissue, you will need it!

and if anyone knows Blake Shelton… can you pass along Zac Charles' link… what an amazing voice and what a beautiful song!   You can go to itunes and download it yourself, too!

Hopefully, if you have been on the fence about joining us on the card drive this year, these photos – and the video – will have helped give you that little nudge.

If you missed last night's post about the card drive – click here!

As always, thank you for visiting my little neck of the stamping blogosphere.   Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

  1. Beautiful. Like the simplicity of this as well as the color.
Have a great and enjoyable day

  2. Aaaaaaaaaaand, I’m crying. That video’s a killer. OWH hits especially hard for me, not only because B served in the USAF and is still employed by them (and I therefore often know folks who have deployed), but, we live in an area that is home to every branch of the military within a fifty mile radius (or so). Some of my good friends and neighbors are military and it’s always so hard to see them (or their spouse) deploy. It’s especially hard on the kiddos.
So, once again, I thank you for doing this.
As for that lovely, lovely, stunning card? What can I say, it’s gorgeous! I love your interpretation of the sketch. I always get so caught up in precisely following the sketch and have a terrible time moving outside the box so to speak. The colors are soft and perfect for the flowers, and why oh why didn’t they come out with the candy dots sooner?? LOVE ’em!
    Hugs!
    P.S. Hi Lou! :o)

  3. Yes, beautiful Jaydee! I enjoy how you stretch the sketch and think outside the box as well. This is perfect! Love the candy dot centers. They certainly add a punch in a subtle way. And that font is really pretty.

  4. Add me to the crying bunch! What a touching video. I loved seeing the kids and the wall of cards! What a great thought that these cards we make will be part of someone’s family history and be passed on thru the generations as a memento of someone’s wartime memories. That is a really sobering thought! I think it is a worthy cause for our best cardmaking efforts. Thank you for all you do Jaydee to promote this and to introduce it to all of us.
I must add that I love your card today, so pretty!

  5. Did I miss a post with packaging instructions and mailing address for OWH? I’m getting cards ready to send as we speak.
Thanks for organizing this effort. I know it’s a lot of work, but I also know our armed forces appreciate it so much!

  6. Oooh! Love the card, colors are beautiful and the bling just makes it.
Thanks for the video. I see that we need to be making kids cards too. I made 11 cards yesterday and will continue in the coming weeks. Thanks for all you do.

  7. Pamela – so glad you are joining us – this is wonderful! Thank you – the troops and their families will appreciate it:-)
As for packaging – once you are ready, just send me an email and I will let you have my address to send the cards to. All you need to do is have the cards together with envelopes to send to me. I will do the rest. It’s a good idea to package them in a plastic bag, just in case the box or envelope gets wet
    Hugs
